On Thursday, 25th of May, our principal Mr Sheehy and St John Bosco College welcomed Helen Ryan and Kenny Travouillon from the WA Museum to inspect the site of a fossil discovery in 2021. Nicholas R (Year 7, 2023) discovered the fossil of a tooth in the grassed area of the Primary Learning Centre. After two years of analysis, it is believed to be 50,000 years old and belonged to a Thylocoleo, a marsupial lion.
Nicholas, along with Mr James Elder and our Gifted & Talented Coordinator, Mr Zachary Gomes, learnt more about the largest ever marsupial carnivore and discovered that the swampland around the College may be home to more fossils. Representatives from the museum will return in the summer and might request the help from some young and enthusiastic amateur archaeologists!
